Lizzie Hoare – HR Administrator
Please describe your role at Contamac:
I work as an HR Administrator, organising and maintaining personnel records, including preparing HR documents. My role is to help throughout the recruitment process, from filtering potential candidates, and arranging interviews, to starting the onboarding of new starter processes and other daily HR procedures. I am also heavily involved in training, ensuring the staff members’ needs are met. I am always arranging and booking various new training sessions, from first aid to abrasive wheel training!
As a person in HR, I believe building a good rapport with your colleagues is paramount. My aim is to serve the company in the best way possible, looking for new ways to develop as a company, but always remember that as a person in Human Resources, I am here to ensure the welfare and satisfaction of employees as a priority.
How is the apprenticeship going?
I am currently happy with my apprenticeship; it has opened me up to a lot of new learning! I thrive on new challenges, so I am excited to complete this one!
It has been beneficial to learn “on the job” and experience the reality of some of the textbook learning we have had in class while at work. I enjoy going to college for classes and having the opportunity to interact with other HR professionals, hear their stories and share our individual experiences – this has been really beneficial for me.
What do you enjoy most about working at Contamac and in our industry?
For me, I think it is about the people within the company – everyone is so lovely and friendly; it is always a pleasure to be at work. I also really enjoy the fact that every day I am learning something new, expanding my knowledge and gaining real experiences.
The industry is one that I have not worked in before; with every stage of the production process being carried out at our facilities – from mixing the chemicals to packing the finished blank – I find that every person in each department is all so different in terms of outlook and skill set. This is what brings everyone together, as we are all united by the same vision of being involved in a company dedicated to making a positive difference.
What has been your most significant achievement since joining the company?
When I joined Contamac in 2021, I came in as maternity cover to organise travel and events for the company. As we have staff within the company who travel for business, I was responsible for organising the flights, hotels, transport (and all the other fun things associated with travel!) With that, I also was involved in planning company events, one of which I organised solely on my own. I would say this is one of my most significant achievements so far – organising a staff event in the Summer for the company on my own was never straightforward but always lots of fun!
Another achievement would be being offered my current role as an HR Administrator and enrolling in an apprenticeship. It is never something I could have seen myself doing, but now I am… I love it!!
What are your ambitions after the apprenticeship finishes?
I would like to complete the next level above my current course, which would involve completing another apprenticeship; this is the Level 5 Diploma in People Management. This would further my knowledge, skills and behaviours within HR and I feel it would really benefit me and allow me to grow as an individual.
What do you like doing outside of work?
I enjoy many things! Some whittled down would be; long dog walks, being creative, good music, Reformer Pilates, reading an interesting book, travelling, exploring the world and, of course…being with my partner, friends and family.
If you were shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
The first item would definitely have to be my partner! I need someone to make me laugh if I am stuck on a deserted island!! The second item would have to either be a good SPF, to keep my youthful looks ha! Or a radio to keep us both sane!
What is your favourite food?
Anything Italian…especially Pasta!
